As Mark shared this morning, I’m returning to Facebook as our Chief Product Officer. I’ve been away just over a year but it’s a different world now.
Like many of you, I’ve been thinking hard about what I can do for our families and communities today, and for the world our children will live in tomorrow. Facebook and our products have never been more relevant to our future. It’s the place I know best, it’s a place I’ve helped to build, and it’s the best place for me to roll up my sleeves and dig in to help.
In 2019 I refocused my time, spinning up climate change initiatives, building progressive political infrastructure for this election year, playing with my reggae band, and reconnecting with my family and kiddos. Then 2020 refocused us all, on a public health crisis, an economic crisis, and now a reckoning of racial injustice. The world is unsettled, divided. People are struggling when things were already hard.
I reached out to Mark awhile ago and I told him I’d be interested to help. I’ve been following Facebook and I’ve been encouraged by progress on so many of the big issues facing us. In the past month the world has grown more chaotic and unstable, which has only given me more resolve to help out. Our most important decisions and products are ahead of us.
To Mark, Sheryl, Schrep, and Javi, and my team – Fidji, Will, Adam, Stan and Antonio – thank you for welcoming me back with open arms. Mark, thank you especially for the chance to work together again. To everyone else, I look forward to seeing you in the coming weeks. I start June 22nd and will be at Q&A today to say hello.
