Hello from Google Ads,
Google is complying with the new security requirements imposed on banks and payment processors by the Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2) taking effect in the European Economic Area (EEA) countries. This directive seeks to provide better protection for your online payments. Your card issuer or bank may require strong customer authentication (such as a combination of a password, text message or fingerprint) when you use a credit or debit card online.
Your Google Ads account will continue to operate normally, but you may be prompted by your bank to provide additional information (such as a one-time code sent to your phone) to complete a payment when:
• You add a new credit or debit card to your Google Ads account
• You set an existing credit or debit card as the primary or backup payment method for your Google Ads account
• You make a manual payment to your Google Ads account
• Your bank requires secure customer authentication during an automatic charge to your credit or debit card
To help prevent disruption to your business, we suggest the following:
• Keep a close eye on your Google Ads account in the next few weeks to see if any issues arise with your payments.
• Add a backup payment method to your Google Ads account if you haven't already, such as a credit or debit card (from a different bank or card issuer).
• Consider setting up a bank account as your primary payment method, as bank accounts may not require secure customer authentication.
Google is working hard to avoid disruptions to your Google Ads account, but any change will be dependent on your bank. If you have any questions about how your payments will be authenticated, or why payments may be declined, please contact your bank directly.
Thanks,
Google Ads
