Strengthening the Internal Front and National Cohesion in Algeria Amid Internal Challenges and External Threats
Prepared by researcher Hassouni Mohamed Abdelghani

Algeria is currently facing both internal and external challenges that threaten its security and stability, making the strengthening of the internal front critically important. These challenges arise in the context of complex global and regional changes, where Algeria is suffering from an economic crisis caused by fluctuations in oil prices, which represent a primary source of national revenue. At the same time, neighboring countries such as Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso are experiencing security instability due to rebellions and terrorist activities targeting national security. Amid these challenges, Algeria adopts a comprehensive strategy aimed at strengthening its internal cohesion and consolidating its national front to face these risks. Strengthening the internal front in Algeria includes enhancing social, economic, political, and security stability, which requires unifying national efforts at all levels. The importance of this national cohesion lies in the fact that it acts as a protective barrier against attempts to destabilize national security, and it is a cornerstone of Algeria's policy to ensure continuity in addressing internal challenges and external threats.

Unifying national efforts from various government institutions, the private sector, and civil society is the first step towards strengthening the internal front. Algerian society needs the solidarity of political, economic, and social forces to ensure the sustainability of security and prosperity. This requires working to strengthen infrastructure, achieve sustainable development, and establish social justice. Moreover, the internal situation requires strong investments in the education sector to teach future generations the value of citizenship and pride in national identity. Through educational programs that enhance national belonging, society can protect itself from any attempts to sow division or discord. There is no doubt that education is the cornerstone of building a strong internal front, focusing on citizenship, justice, and loyalty to the nation, which contributes to building a strong civil society aware of its responsibilities toward its country.

Algeria's diplomacy also plays a central role in strengthening the internal front by representing Algeria on the international stage and protecting it from external threats. Algeria's active role in the African Union, the Arab League, and other international organizations contributes to defending its interests and protecting it from foreign interventions that could affect its sovereignty. Algeria's diplomacy seeks to strengthen regional relations, particularly with Sahel countries such as Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, in order to support regional stability and affirm Algeria's firm stance in combating terrorism and extremism. Algeria's regional role, in light of these strategic relations, contributes to enhancing national identity and improving Algeria's position internationally, which benefits the strengthening of the internal front and national security.

On the other hand, the economic development strategy contributes to strengthening Algeria's internal front, as achieving economic development is the basis for social and security stability. Algeria, through its ongoing economic reforms, seeks to diversify its economy, moving away from dependence on oil resources. The development of non-oil sectors such as agriculture, industry, and technology is one of the essential elements for ensuring economic sustainability, which contributes to strengthening the internal front. Additionally, focusing on improving citizens' living standards through investments in education, health, and infrastructure will help strengthen societal stability and achieve social justice. In this context, economic partnerships with countries such as Qatar and Italy are a strategic step towards achieving sustainable economic growth, which contributes to strengthening internal unity and facing threats from external forces.

Algeria faces ongoing regional security challenges due to the security deterioration in neighboring countries such as Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. In these areas, security authorities are struggling to impose order, reflecting a security vacuum that increases the influence of terrorist groups. In this context, Algeria has taken strict security measures to protect its borders from any terrorist infiltration or external threats. One of the most notable measures is the closure of its airspace to Mali following repeated violations of Algerian airspace, a decision that reflects Algeria's firmness in protecting its sovereignty and national security. The closure of the airspace demonstrates to the world how serious Algeria is about maintaining its borders and protecting its national security from any threats.

Confronting security threats also requires strengthening security cooperation with Sahel countries, where Algeria has provided logistical support and security advice to the region's countries in their fight against terrorism and organized crime. Through these regional security efforts, Algeria continues to strengthen the stability of the region, which reflects its regional credibility and its ability to face security challenges.

Domestically, unifying national efforts by focusing on national values and social justice remains the decisive factor in strengthening the internal front. Popular participation and national awareness are essential elements contributing to internal stability. Coordination between government sectors and civil society to combat corruption and promote transparency will contribute to improving political stability and building trust in government institutions. This, in turn, will help improve the social and economic environment, leading to the strengthening of national unity and the protection of internal stability.

Algeria, with its strategic position, remains a bulwark against security threats and political pressures that seek to affect its security and stability. The strategy of strengthening the internal front revolves around unifying national efforts to secure national unity and internal stability. Algeria represents a key supporter of regional stability in the Sahel region, and internal stability and national unity are the foundations for achieving a better future for the Algerian people. Thus, Algeria is moving in the right direction towards achieving development and strengthening internal security while maintaining its leadership role in regional and international stability.
